Kronos is a German company based in Munich. In July 70 percent of the company was bought by EDP Renewables (EDPR) for Euro 250 million. The 30% remains in family hands. There is some sort of scheme that is triggered if Kronos do well which, (I think), results in EDPR buying more stock. So despite what they said at the community consultation meeting, Kronos is now controlled by EDPR.
EDPR is a big company based in Spain with a market value of $22.5 billion. It is the fourth largest generator of wind power globally, but recently has pushed into solar.
EDPR is in turn 77.5 percent owned by EDP (Energias De Portugal) based in Lisbon, it is an electricity utility company with a market value of Euro 19.4 billion.
So whatever happens at Pallet Hill/Newbiggin valley is small potatoes in the EDP scheme of things. Further any money that this generates isn't staying in Cumbria or even the UK.
These charming images are taken from Kronos’s own web site - aren’t they lovely?
