The Newbiggin Valley

is a lovely peaceful spot used for grazing and crops such as barley between Newbiggin and the Greystoke Road near The Wreay farm.

A company called Kronos want to build a 58 Acre solar power plant in the valley.

We passionately object to this proposal for a number of reasons, click on one of the red sections to read more.

  • we don’t want to lose our lovely valley

  • the visual impact of this project will be horrible

  • we are concerned to protect food security

  • although we support the need to move away from fossil fuels there are still some concerns that need to be addressed with solar energy

  • we are concerned about the road safety problems this development would bring

  • this would be yet an other development - the third in a very small area, poor Newbiggin is being surrounded by industrial developments and the character of the area and the village is likely to be lost for good.

When asked, Kronos said they do not plan to conduct a Full Environmental Impact Assessment for this project. We who live here think this should all be treated a bit more seriously.
